After a day of shopping I arrived home with hundreds of grocery bags. (don't hubbies tend to exaggerate when women go shopping?) I gathered my groceries from the back of the car and began walking to our apartment but was distracted by a couple of bunnies on the front yard. I thought , "Beli will love to see them!" I hurried to our backyard so I could tell Beli about the bunnies. I stopped to open the gate (we are fortunate our apt is fenced, for Beli's safety) so I had to put my groceries on the ground to unlock the gate. It was then I spotted something! My heart was beating faster as I walked closer. And there it was, a snake all curled up, basking in the sun. I almost felt like I was the intruder. I know they are harmless, but still. Should I be worried? Then today Hubby was mowing our yard and he said he saw three more!
I think this encounter has intensified my ophidiophobia!
what phobias do you have?
YIKES! YIKES! YIKES!!!!! I can't believe how calm you are about it!! Are they poisonous?!...Ewwwww! And as to your question, I don't have any real phobias...any more! But I sure wouldn't want to run up on a snakes...or snake-s...in my backyard!!! The giant spider in the house just recently was bad enough!! O_0
ReplyDeleteno I can't look!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEeeek!!!
ReplyDeleteBlech!!!! I really, really dislike snakes. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI hope those snakes aren't dangerous! I've come across cobras and other kinds of snakes in my yard before. I remember I completely froze with the cobra- it's like I registered it and got scared but I didn't know what to do either. I ran off and the cobra slithered away.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have contacted the local health ministry or something similar to inquire about them. I would not be caught dead in the yard again. I would probably cry until we moved.
ReplyDeleteAnd Oh Yeah....You've been tagged! ^_^

Ugh! That gives me the willies! NOT a fan of snakes...at all. Maybe you should have an exterminator come out? Can they get rid of snakes?
ReplyDeleteI have such a hard time with snakes. When we lived in Wyoming we had rattlesnake is out yard all the time..I am so scared of them..Yikes! Kisses, darling
ReplyDeleteAs long as you keep them outside your house - you are fine! We found one of those in our living room... at midnight... just when we were leaving to the hospital to give birth to my first son... The good part: I was so shocked that I stopped feeling the contractions for well over 2-3 hours (even though I could see them peak on the monitor once in the hospital)...
ReplyDelete@poetess, I don't think they are poisonous. there was another time that Beli almost stepped on one. it was in the frontyard i took Beli out of the carseat and I started grabbing stuff from the car when I see Beli and I see the snake, I think I was frozen for a second before I reacted and grabbed Beli's arm and that time I did scream!
ReplyDelete@Ren, I don't blame you!
ReplyDelete@Kathleen, and @Amanda yes, I agree with you.! eeeeeek.
Jelena, I'm going to ask our landlord what she suggests. She has lived here for many years so I'm sure she may not be surprised. But the fact that Beli plays out in the backyard, ummmm I don't know.
ReplyDeleteJen, we will have to do some asking around. and it's not even summer yet, can you imagine when it gets warmer? yikes!
ReplyDelete@Tee, cobras?? that's scary!
ReplyDelete@Diana, yikes! I've never seen rattlesnakes, it would be such a frightening experience.
Deya, oh no! I think I would faint right on the spot!
ReplyDelete@Poetess
ReplyDeleteI found this link that says there are 25 types of snakes in Colorado but only two of them are poisonous. our little 'friend' is harmless.
and also, according to the information from above, Nonvenomous snakes have round pupils.
how scary!! they look so big and dangerous. I hate snakes and would be paranoid with olivia in the backyard.
