Planning our trip to Italy

This weekend Hubby and I are going on a road trip!! We are driving from Croatia to Italy and spending a few days in Florence. Our 4th wedding anniversary is not until next month, but I'll be out of the country visiting family, and since we've always wanted to travel to Tuscany, hubby and I decided now is the perfect opportunity to visit. Maybe we'll be lucky enough and bump into Andrea Bocelli?

I have been browsing a few online catalogs for inspiration so I can create that special outfit and I think I found the perfect dress, even for a day at the Duomo. What do you think? I have a gray dress in my closet from Express which I can pair up with either a black or red skinny belt, my problem will be the shoes! I usually, let me rephrase, never wear high heels. Maybe I can squeeze my squared-shaped feet into these skinny shoes??

Now time to learn a few Italian phrases.

Pleased to meet you. Piacere di conoscerla (pee-a-chayray dee ko-no-shayrla)

How are you? fine, thanks and you? Come sta? bene grazie e lei? (komay sta benay grats-yay ay lay)

Ci può consigliare un buon ristorante locale?

  5. OMG - such beautiful clothes!! Funny story: When I was studying in Florence as a sophomore in college, I DID "run into" Andrea Bocelli. I was at the airport picking up my sister and cousin who were coming to visit me. He was getting into a van and I was about to walk inside the airport. My bf at the time wanted to get Andrea's autograph for his mom, but I was like 'oh you shouldn't bother him he wants to be left in peace.' He totally ignored me and walked right up to Andrea. My bf came back totally disappointed. 'What happened?' 'The pen didn't work.' and duh because he's blind he didn't see that the pen didn't work and bf was too embarrassed to say anything. And all the pen needed was a little shake and test run. 'Will you go get the autograph?' 'No way,' I protested. 'I wouldn't even know what to say.' 'Just say, "Un autografo, per favore."' So I did and I added "sono americana." Andrea was just so charming. He switched to English, asked my name, shook my hand, asked me where I was from, told me had recently performed in my hometown, etc. The look on my bf's face was priceless. His gf had just had a full-on conversation with Andrea Bocelli! 'Here's your autograph.' If I weren't such a nice girl, I would have kept it for myself...

  10. Amanda, Now I'm jealous!!!I love Andrea! after being introduced to his music by my good friend Nando, I have bought every single Cd. even asked my hubby, very very sweetly if we could go to his concert when he was in Denver. But it's not the same to see him on stage, from far away. And you shook his hand and had a conversation with him? You are so lucky. and yes you were too nice, for not having kept that autograph!

I will be writing this address for the restaurant, thank you for sharing your story, it made my day!

  21. Oh, I am so jealous, I love Florence. You will so enjoy your trip, especially with your gorgeous daughter, the Italians are crazy about kids. We went there when our daughter was seven months old and we could not walk anywhere without being stopped, having her picture taken with the locals, and waiters taking her off our hands to play with whilst we were eating - lovely!
I very much love the first grey dress, although it may not fit anymore after a couple of days in Italy....
    Enjoy yourselves!
