This weekend we were invited to a cookout at the campgrounds of Chatfield Park.  I debated between baking something or preparing a pasta salad.  I couldn't decide so I revisited my recipe book and came across a recipe card for a three cheese appetizer. It also called for fresh basil and tomatoes, a good choice right?

I posted the recipe here. It was really good.

I think there were a total of 7 kids and over 14 parents. Beli had a wonderful time running around with her new friends, and throwing dirt up in the air! That's Beli in the green shirt, and she is carrying a new toy my friend's son gave to her. She carried that stuffed lamb everywhere she went!

It was a wonderful day,  making new friends and eating lots of good food, including cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies, balanced out of course with a refreshing slice of watermelon.

View of the lake from our picnic table.

Afterwards, we took a very exhausted kiddo home, she slept until 10am the following day.
A good day indeed.

  1. Now how did I miss this cheese pie out of all the things? It sounds delicious. Super easy to make and it was a great choice. I love when the picnic food is gourmet. Napkins, paper plates and such wonderful dishes in the nature. Terrific. I love how Beli is carrying around the lamb. Children get so attached to the toys sometimes, but they are mighty particular about the toys they choose. You can never guess which one is going to be their favorite. Something about the lamb appeals to her cuteness!

  2. This looks like it was a great day out! I love all of the open spaces...lots of 'run around room' for kids to just be kids! And a nice lake for adults to look at! :-)) Or go fishing! Was there any fish in it?! Inquiring minds wanna know! ^_^

  8. Jelena,it was super easy to bake. the same day I purchased the ingredients, I also bought all the necessary ingredients to make the croissant recipe. Yes, Beli loves animals and the lamb was a hit! poor kid was crying when I told her the toy had to be washed before she could sleep with it, (it was no longer cream in color, but gray from all the dirt!)

  9. @Poetess, that was the feeling exactly, kids were being kids, allowed to run and play in the dirt and just have fun. Adults were having just as much fun, catching up with friends we hadn't seen in 2 years. We didn't make it out to the lake, but I'm sure there were some fish.
