The Spanish Andalusian: An Equestrian Treat

Horse of battle, Horse of ballet or you may know them as the Lipizzaner Stallions.

The first time I saw the Lippizan horse was in 2004 when I lived in Iowa. There is something about these 4 legged creatures that I just love. So you can understand my bewilderment when I did a bit of research and learned that the town where they were first bred was in a small town located in Slovenia not too far from the Italian border. So you guessed it, we are going on a road trip.

Next week to be exact.

"And I quote:When you see the Lipizzans perform, it is like stepping back four hundred years and viewing one of the greatest equine ballets in history."

Aren't they a beauty? Did you know that when they are born, their coat is actually black? Our trip will include visiting Pula, the Brijuni National Park, then driving north to see the horses then a final stop in Lake Bled to visit Slovenia's oldest castle.

I'm very happy because tomorrow will be my last exam then start packing and planning our trip. My mother-in-law took a couple of vacation days so she will come with us. Beli travels much better on trips when someone sits next to her and talks to her the entire trip. I would, but I tend to get motion sickness when I ride in the back so I'm grateful Grandma is coming with us.

I'm also excited because Summer is here, ok not officially but warm enough to go swimming.
