When one is young

"When one is young it's easy to think that all kinds of things about the world are fixed, that they have always been there. With adulthood, though, comes the realization that very little is fixed, that things change all the time..."- -excerpt from "Another Fool in the Balkans" by Tony White.

How true these words are. I feel nostalgic when I remember my childhood. When we lived in Mexico my sisters and I spent every summer at my grandparents farm, but one day that changed when we moved to America. I was eight years old when I realized that the world was not fixed and I was faced with change all around me. Now living in Croatia I have the opportunity to relive those memories through my daughter.

Beli's great grandparents have a farm with chickens and plenty of fruit trees. I feel right at home and I hope that she will have the same sweet childhood memories that I had when I spent my summers at my grandparents farm.
I guess you can say I'm doing my part by taking plenty of photographs! Now what to do with all these grapes?

  3. Yes children need a constant in their life, and that is not a place, rather the people they love. Once they had that to the age of four, they can go and conquer the world!

  10. Croatian life means eating grilled fish and meat, drinking rakia and wine, with friends.
Plenty of excellent fish and meat, wine is something every Croat knows how to make himselve.
October is the winemaking season, after that, the rakia is made from its leftovers, and than the party start, as all has to be shared with friends.
    Life's so good, cheers !

    PS, once again lovely pictures.

  12. ps you have no trouble finding Costa Coffee, it is right in the center of town, and a couple more shops in the city.
Oh, I changed the feta in the recipe , after consulting with an expert, to Mascarpone, since I tried it yesterdaz that way. It does not overwhelm the Roquefort. My suggestion, just put them in a fridge on a huge tray and you will be eating them for a month!

  13. I recognized you instantly in the first photo! You have exactly the same smile. The little girl at the right side, with a blueish dress...? You haven't change too much:))
I spent my childhood at my grandparents' house too, in a courtyard with fruit trees, chickens, cats and a doggie. And one day my parents took me away in the big city... I had to go to school... I miss all that so much. Thanks for the wonderful photos.
