Fashion in the city

Hubby went to the farm to finish  the harvest of the olives so that left Beli and I to hang out together this weekend in the city. She did so much better getting ready this morning. Lately I have been feeling frustrated that she fights my every choice of clothing and meals that I prepare. Which in turn makes me doubtful about my trip overseas next month. How will I manage without hubby to help me distract her? Don't get me wrong, I love her outgoing personality, her independence I just wish she could be nicer to me! But today something clicked in my head (resignation? maybe) and I'm changing my attitude. I will just give in to what she wants to wear. I will have to say she didn't do so bad picking out her clothes this morning. We walked to the bus stop and we waited for bus number 15 to take us downtown. Beli was anxiously waiting for numero quince.

There were so many beautiful and fashionable women. I felt underdressed with my silver flats!

love the boots

Even with a population of roughly over 200,000 you will almost run into someone you know so there's a pressure to always look your best!

 Selling shoelaces.

I couldn't resist and I went to Zara's. I purchased this for Beli, what do you think? There was another shirt and I showed it to Beli and she said, "esta feo," it's ugly. I guess I should take her shopping more often so she can help me out with my wardrobe!

  2. Sounds like Beli has her own sense of style! That's not necessarily a bad thing. I was told that the best thing to do with kids...and I did this with all of the relatives and friend's kids that I baby-sitted...was to pick out 2 things you want them to choose from, only 2, and then have them choose between those 2 (even mixing and matching if they wanted). And if it's going to be a battle...and it's clothes and not drugs...let em have it {as long asd they have clothes on and are not in the buff! ^_^}!!

  6. @Poetess, yes this is what I have been trying to do. Just choose 2 pieces. and if she says not to both of them, then I try to put one of the shirts on and usually says no I want the other one. ha anything to get her to dress. (although this technique doesn't always work)

  10. I wore silver flats today, too! I realized that having a little bit of heels actually help. My legs got tired. I love the shirt you got at Zara for Beli!! So cute!!! I love the phrase on the shirt "do you want to dance with me?", too. I also enjoyed seeing the fashion on the street!! I should try to do that. In Jakarta people don't walk outside as the pavements are very limited in certain parts of the city (mostly business district), so it will be challenging, but we'll see... I love your photos!

  12. Kaho, I had no idea what the shirt said, so thank you for the translation. I would like to see fashion in Indonesia.
I wanted to take a photo of a lady cooking chestnuts, (thought it would be the polite thing to do, so I asked if I could take a photo, and she said No, had to respect her) but I thought it was very interesting what she was doing. Maybe next time, someone will say yes.

  13. She may turn into the younger generation Besty Johnson! To feel so secure in herself is so cool, and not to worry about what others may think about how she looks, well that's pretty wonderful, style will come later.

  17. I love Zara's! I didn't realize that split looked like the French Rivera. I can understand the feel to want to dress up. You have to pick your battles. Usually giving your children a couple of good choices prevents the melt downs. However, ultimately if she is dressed for the climate I wouldn't stress about it to much. You want her to be independant. It is a good thing. They say it takes at least 12 times before people like certain foods, so keep offering it to her but don't make a big deal out of it when she doesn't eat it. However, don't make a seperate meal either. If you make it a big deal she will just go against you for the power struggle and not because she doensn't like something.
