First weeked in November: recipes and artwork

While Hubby has been away for the week picking olives at his Grandparents farm, Beli and I have been cooking, painting and hanging out with Grandma Nada.
My Mother-in-law gave me these gigantic apples and since I'm not a big fan of apples, I decided to turn them into a dessert. To see the recipe for the French Apple Crumble click here,  I made a few variations. ( I added a bit of rum flavoring and a dash of cinnamon and omitted the chocolate chips). It was really good, even without the ice cream!
On Saturday I prepared scrambled eggs using spinach, bell peppers and potatoes. I could eat breakfast all day!  I should mention that sometimes I take for granted how many organic products I cook with.
For example take this omelet, everything came from the farm (olive oil, eggs, potatoes, bell peppers, spinach and jalapenos).

papas fritas.

In the afternoon we walked to the shopping center and purchased some supplies so Beli could paint with Grandma.
We stopped for some coffee and  dessert.

We also went to the beach and made an attempt at sand castles.

Off she goes to make some new friends. Hope you are enjoying your first week of November!

  1. You should have had Beli paint a picture of your crumble and your omelette!! Yum! They both looked so good! And I think replacing the chocolate chips was a very good idea in this recipe...I LOVE apples!!! I mix apples and peaches together in my own pie recipe!

  2. Oh you have had a busy weekend the two girls. I love the paint stand for Beli. She must have enjoyed it a lot. All she needs is a French berret. Yes the food of organic origin is terrific. These days you can only trust that somethings are organic if you know who gave it to you. Kisses for the girls!

  4. @Poetess, thanks they were yummy. I might switch and next time omit the bananas, it's only good if you eat it the same day while it's warm but I had leftovers and it was not as tasty the following day. I might try only apples next time or maybe peaches.

  5. Jelena, it's fun watching Beli paint, she loves mixing the colors and her imagination is amazing. she will draw a 'witch (from watching the movie Shrek), dog, tree, grass, the sky'. Since Grandma retired she has been able to spend more time with Beli and I took the opportunity this weekend to take many photos and videos of them!

  6. Beli has such a full and happy childhood - it's always so fun reading your posts and what you all (and her!) are up to.
Yummm, looking at all of your pictures makes me HUNGRY! My mom has a garden too - I LOVE that we have so many organics available right out the door! I'm jealous you have farm fresh eggs - yummo! Here, we have to worry about the antibiotics they feed the chickens, and all this other processing crap they do (plus, it's really inhumane the way they treat them!). I've made an effort to buy cage free/humane/antibiotic free eggs, but I so wish I could walk outside and just grab some!
So happy you shared so many pictures!

  10. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! How lovely!! I love apples, but I also love apple crumble. That's one of my favorites and aww, with ice cream. You're making me want to go into the kitchen and bake now. Your breakfast looks delish! I like scrambled egg with spinach and bacon in mine. I'll add tomatoes next time. I have to find good jalapenos, too. My hubby and I like Tex-Mex breakfast. Migas is one of our favorites. I also like simple breakfast tacos. Beli's so lucky to have families who love her around her. It must be hard for you that you don't get to hang out with your own who live across the Atlantic ocean. I hope your families will be able to see you guys soon...

  11. You have an artist in your family, Elisa! And she is so adorable. I am not a big fan of raw apples. In pie, however, they are delicious! Have a lovely week!

  12. Jen, we have tons of spinach so I'm getting creative with ways to prepare it: with eggs, salads and lasagna. Plus good source of calcium!

  13. Allison when we lived in the states I also switched to purchasing cage free/free roaming eggs after reading a vegetarian book and how the chickens were kept all clustered together, it really was sad to read. Don't you just love to walk out and pick something from the garden!
